An air conditioner can place a high load on home wiring, especially during long summer operation. Connecting it to an old socket or weak extension lead can cause overheating, voltage drop, or breaker trips.
It depends on the AC power, cable size, socket condition, and other appliances on the same circuit. In many homes, a dedicated line from the panel is safer.
The breaker must match the cable and load. Installing a larger breaker without checking the wiring is dangerous because the breaker protects the cable.
If the socket heats up, the breaker trips, lights dim when AC starts, or an extension lead is used, call an electrician for diagnostics and safe installation.
